SITE HISTORY

The Sycamore Canyon Wilderness automatic photographic monitoring system was installed on the northern slope of Black Mountain in July 1985.  The camera viewed Sitgreaves Mountain to the north until September 1995.

Photographs were taken at 09:00, 12:00, and 15:00 daily beginning from 1985 through August 1988.  The site was vandalized and the camera was stolen in the fall of 1988.  The camera was reinstalled approximately 100 yards southwest of the previous location in March 1989.  At this time monitoring frequencies were decreased to once daily (12:00).  Over 3,300 35mm color slides of the Sitgreaves Mountain Vista were reviewed to develop the provided historical photographic archive.
